The Jim Thompson House, Bangkok. The baskets are filled with silk worm cocoons in various colors. The man at the end places them in the simmering water to losen up the cocoon and teases out the thread to spin it into silk thread. Thompson was an American expatriate who settled here after WWII and created the world market in Thai silk. His house, created out of six old Thai houses and shipped and rebuilt on this site, is surrounded by native tropical plants and is a real oasis in downtown Bangkok.
