After horrific smog descended on Qingdao over the weekend, there was little to do but hide and try and stay indoors. The weather page listed the day’s forecast euphemistically as “Haze” or the curious “Smoke”. Beijing topped 700 on the Air Quality Index at the US Embassy on a scale that tops out at 500. Qingdao exceeded 450 last night after hovering between 300 and 400 mostly the last few days.
After another hazy, orange science fiction sunrise this morning, a wind shift and kicking sea breezes led to the first sunshine and blue skies in nearly a week. Tonight, leaving work, I spotted a thin crescent moon rising and a few wispy white clouds. Another reminder to be thankful for simple pleasures.
