Songbirds of Hanoi

I think I know why the caged bird sings.  All over Hanoi, we saw bird cages hanging over the sidewalks and business up and down streets.  The sweet singing of birds could be heard everywhere, which explains why the Vietnamese and many Asians cage wild songbirds in small cages in urban areas.  It’s curious, given their sad confinement amid the diesel exhaust, constant blaring of horns, and lights, that they continue to sing each day. It was difficult not letting them free as we passed them by on our way around town…
