Mostly known for it’s skiing, quaint country inns, and the rolling Green Mountains, Vermont is the least religious and most politically independent of states in the U.S., one of the most educated, and the second least populated state. Vermont, only a few hundred miles from Manhattan is the state with the shortest tallest building at 124′.
Stowe is also known as the final home for the original Von Trap Family, including Maria, made immortal by Julie Andrews in the 1965 motion picture musical, The Sound of Music. The Von Trap Lodge opened in the 1940’s and continues today as a modern resort. Maria, who died in 1987, and several of the children are buried at the family cemetery on the property.
