Ha Long Bay

Inhabited for tens of thousands of years, Ha Long Bay-literally descending dragon bay is located in the Gulf of Tonkin just off the northeastern coast of Vietnam. Consisting of   nearly 2,000 limestone karst islands, the 1500 square kilometer area was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.  Largely under-regulated mass tourism is the greatest threat to Ha Long Bay’s diverse natural environment and the small native human culture.
