The Point Pinos lighthouse is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the West Coast of the United States. The 1855 site even uses the original third order Fresnel lens, visible in the photograph. The light is still an active Coast Guard aid to navigation along the rocky and often foggy coast just north of Big Sur and close to the Pacific Coast Highway. Museum exhibits and tours are operated by the city of Pacific Grove, Monterey County, California.
The lighthouse is open to visitors Thursday through Monday from 1 to 4pm.
