Although he really didn’t like it much, Alex drank about half of his fresh bowling ball-sized coconut with a plastic straw on the street of Hoi An, Vietnam near Da Nang. Later the woman hacked up his leftovers and we ate some of the pieces inside.
Still later we ordered a sugar cane drink that they made with a machine that pulverized the raw cane creating a sweet, frothy, white drink. Finally, he enjoyed some hot-off-the-grill mystery meat on a stick (probably pork) that I quietly advised against. Before the night was through, the mystery meat, et al was back up and out as dad had warned. Experience, not lectures or nagging is most often the best teacher.
